Wyoming Township was organized in 1848 and named after Wyoming County, New York, but stayed under township government until 1959, when residents incorporated their own city to resist annexation by Grand Rapids and Grandville. The exterior of Godwin Heights, Home Acres, and Rogers Heights largely dates to the decades right around that vote.
